I'm really happy with where things are going right now. It's not exactly what I want, but I recognize that things are generally pretty damn good. And I appreciate it.

In other news, this new My Guests feature on lj is frighteningly similar to OkC stalkers. More anonymity plz!

Sad fact: I am excited to start working full-time so I can pay off my credit card. It's under $500, very manageable, but I still just can't wait to not have to think about it anymore. This has me feeling both proud (for being responsible and planning to deal with the debt before going on shopping sprees) and exceedingly boring/lame. :D That's just part of growing up, right?

POLL (of sorts)

What foods do you reach for when your appetite is in negative numbers, but your grumbling, crampy stomach clearly indicates a desire for nutrients?

I ask because I've been in this situation almost permanently over the past few weeks. It does usually happen to me when the weather gets warm. I'm of the unfortunate sort to have ridiculous year-round allergies that cause massive PND*, which in turn sits in my stomach and makes me nauseous at the thought of eating anything. Times like these, I mainly stay away from anything dairy or heavy, but that leaves me with.. salad and fruit. I love salad and fruit, but I don't want to have to stick with 'em 24/7. Right now, my 'solution' is to drink some moderately-healthy fruit juice when I can't bring myself to eat anything to at least get some sugar and some calories into my system, but I'm very aware that this isn't the best approach.

Halp?

I like to go through lists like this a couple of times a year. My reading list (and to-read list) is so giant, I find it really easy to get caught up in a particular series, author, genre, etc, and forget about the two shelves' of books I have sitting in my room just waiting to be read.

That said... )

What this tells me: a) I don't read nearly as much as I used to, b) I should be reading more, and c) I start a lot of books that I never finish. What else is new?

Why am I constantly a target of spam lj accounts? In the last 24 hours, I've been 'friended' by five journals (and they're always Russian--again, why?). I made a new account specifically to keep things small, to be friends only with people I know/care about. I know it sounds stupid, but it's really frustrating. I'm nearing the quit-LJ point, which is unfortunate because I've been an active member since 2001.

What the FUCK. I opened one of the doors to the antique armoire in my room (originally my parents' and something they grudgingly let me use because it wouldn't fit in their room) and it FELL OFF.

I am so dead.

I posted this last year too, I think, but.. well, the sentiment hasn't changed, so why mess with a good thing?

And yes, I know it's up a day early. Deal with it. ;D

Hey kids, I'm curious about some things. For those of you who go to a gym (or other type of exercise facility in which you will inevitably see other people):

1. How much do you "dress up"? Do you throw on any old t-shirt and sweats? Do you try to match a little? Do you buy specific exercise clothes?

2. Do you put effort into your face/head? Hair styled in a particular way, make up? Or whatever lazy ponytail/stretchy headband to keep back the flyaways?

3. Are you paying attention to what other people wear? Do you care?

It's just out of curiosity; please don't feel judged one way or the other. Personally, I tend to wear old t-shirts and cut off sweatpants of some sort. I don't go to a gym anymore (boo), so I really put no effort into coordinating what's going on, but when I did belong to a gym and then had a yoga studio membership, I'd try to look somewhat presentable and not completely ridiculous. I have one workout type top (you know, this kind of thing) that I got on clearance at Marshall's but otherwise don't particularly care to pay for designer workout wear. I know some people who do shell out the bucks because looking cute motivates them to go to the gym more--totally fair. So, help me out. What do you think?

I am so close to broke, I want to cry. I need a fucking job. Any job!

That's a lie.. I reeeally don't want just any job. I'm willing to take a mediocre, stuffy, boring as sin desk job, but I won't work in food service anymore if I can help it. I may, though, take more hours at Borders and suck it up. Bitches gotta get paid.

I also really need to lose weight in a big way. I didn't realize until the other day that to get down to a healthy, ideal weight, I'm looking at shedding upwards of 40 pounds. That's a fuckton. That also means I need to be more serious about it than I have been. Still, it's a process and I'm not going to kill myself with it. Daily 15 minute runs on the treadmill are a good start; I'm proud of that. I know you're all sick of hearing it, though. I'll try to keep the angsty babble at a minimum.

Have made zero progress with the whole volunteering thing. Likely because I'm focused on the whole finding a paying job thing. Still, agh.

Got some free art from my therapist today. They need to be reframed but are otherwise pretty and--it bears repeating--free! Will take pictures soon.

Aaaah. I woke up to my computer being virus-ridden. I found the file itself, but haven't been able to locate whatever's making it regenerate so quickly. If I can't crack it myself within the next hour or so, I think I may just suck it up and go to Geek Squad. This really sucks.

eta: WHAT THE FUCK. THESE THINGS ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN.

french keyboards are crazy, so this is likely to be short. sweet jesus, i drove through the uk. our rental car wasn't ready, then wasn't automatic (maggie was supposed to drive), then wasn't to be given to 21 year olds. we ended up getting one but all the cars had manual transmission, so guess who drove? starting in glasgow, to hay-on-wye (wales), around an accident and ridiculous detour in wales, to birmingham (england). i did well, i think, considering i'd gone into it completely unprepared. am now in paris (yay cheap hotel close to red light district), and fucking exhausted. a little cranky--happy to be here, but also sort of wishing i was home. c'est la vie.. or however it's spelled. ;D it may end up being a ridiculous few days, but they'll be fun.

A quick update from London!

...

I'm in London! But not exciting London, just stuck in Heathrow. I couldn't get on the earlier flight with Maggie and Linnea (my travel buddies) because I had a checked bag, so I have a few hours to kill. And I accidentally gave the itnernet machine thing too much money--we made a pact not to convert everthing from £/€ to $ on sight--so now I'm bumming around. I really enjoyed the use of those pound and euro symbols, btw. In case you couldn't tell from the blatantly unnecessary use of them.

So far all is well with the traveling, and soon enough (in 3.5 hours) we'll actually be settled into my cousin's flat in Glasgow. Now that I've left stressful things behind and am actually on the move, I'm really excited to be here. :D Or.. to be on my way to what will be Here soon. Hopefully. Shut up.

Abandoning LJ to write in my moleskin, but I'm sure I'll update again with exciting vacation-y stuff since Linnea brought her computer. Yayyyy.

PS. I'm lame and miss y'all already. Haw.

A list of books, shamelessly stolen from [info]zanylikethat, copypasta'd here for reference.

100 Books )

If only I could remember half the books I've read. Titles don't count for much if you can't even offer a vague plot summary, which is the case for a few of these. It amuses me also that multiple novels by an author are listed, yet none of the ones that I have read (Toni Morrison, for example. And there could certainly stand to be more Virginia Woolf!). Other comments to come later; I'm sleepy for no particular reason.
